He shared the information during a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday.

“There has been a discussion on cooperation in the defence sector; the defence minister has informed both countries are preparing to sign a MoU on defence training and technical assistance,” Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told reporters later.

The Malaysian defence minister ‘highly appreciated’ the development and higher GDP achieved by Bangladesh under the leadership of Hasina, he said.

“Malaysia will continue to support Bangladesh on Rohingya repatriation. The defence minister applauded Bangladesh’s role in tackling the crisis,” Karim said.

Hasina urged the international community to continue its pressure on Myanmar to repatriate the Rohingyas. She also mentioned the existence of ‘brotherly relations’ between Malaysia and Bangladesh.

“South and Southeast Asian countries have a lot of assets. The countries in the region should propel the growth by cooperating between them,” said Sheikh.

She also focused on the development of the agriculture sector.

Hasina stressed the need of increasing solidarity between Muslim countries adding that the conflict between them is unfortunate.

Mohamed Bin Sabu conveyed the greetings of Malaysia’s Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamed to Hasina.

Hasina also conveyed her greetings and recalled her visit to Malaysia in 2014.
