A three-member probe panel led by the civil surgeon submitted a report regarding the incident on Thursday night. The investigation found that the three doctors had been negligent in their duties.
The findings were then announced at a press conference at the Chittagong Press Club on Friday morning.
The dismissals were announced soon afterwards.
Max Hospital Managing Director Dr Liakat Ali Khan told bdnews24.com that Dr Debashish Sengupta had been temporarily relieved of his duties for some time before the report was submitted.
“According to our internal enquiries, her father became frantic after she began having intense seizures. She should have been taken to the ICU. But instead, Dr Debashish proved he was not up to the task of crisis management.”
“Both of them have been fired.”
Dr Khan said that specialist Dr Bidhan Roy did not have a position at the hospital and that he would not have been contacted unless the patient’s family had made the call.
The probe had found that all three doctors were guilty of negligence and recommended that proceedings be initiated against them.
According to the report, a lack of experience and sincerity was noted among the doctors when Raifa began experiencing the intense seizures.
Though the nurses attending her were sincere in their efforts, they did not have the capacity or knowledge to handle the situation, it added.
