
Man, 5 others to hang for burning wife alive for dowry in 2005

A Dhaka tribunal has sentenced the husband and five others to death for pouring kerosene and burning a woman alive for dowry in Dhamrai in 2005.
The husband, ‘Zafar’, was present when the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal No. 9 read out the verdict on Thursday.
The five other convicts are on the run.

Housewife ‘Samina’ was murdered for only Tk 10,000 dowry at Dakkhinparha on June 7, 2005, Assistant Public Prosecutor Shahid Uddin told bdnews24.com.
Her mother Nazma Begum started a case over the killing.
Judge Md Sharif Uddin also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each.
The tribunal had recorded statements of 11 witnesses.
