Former Bangladesh Railway Chief Engineer AM Zia Uddin Mahmood dies at 80

Former Chief Engineer of Bangladesh Railway AM Zia Uddin Mahmood has passed away at the age of 80.

Mahmood had been living with stomach and lung cancer for some time, the family said.

He passed away on Monday morning at his Gulshan home.

Zia Uddin Mahmood was born on Jan 2, 1938 in Brahmanbaria’s Nasirnagar. He had also served at the Bangladesh Mission in Kolkata before he retired from his public service position in the nineties.

His two sons, ADN Group Chairman Asif Mahmood and TVNL Deputy Director Aref Mahmood, are living in Bangladesh. His daughter Lopa Mahmood lives in Ireland.

The funeral prayers for Zia Uddin Mahmood will be held at Gulshan’s Azad Mosque on Monday evening, Aref Mahmood told bdnews24.com.

Zia Uddin Mahmood will then be laid to rest at the Banani graveyard.
