Two men killed in alleged gunfight in Jashore: Police

Police say they have recovered the bodies of two unknown men who were killed in a gunfight between two gangs of criminals in Jashore’s Monirampur Upazila.

The gunfight took place on the Jashore-Monirampur road in the Begaritola- Chhatiantola marshland area around 5am on Sunday, said Mokarram Hossain, chief of the local police station.

The dead were between 30 to 32 years of age and have yet to be identified.

Police conducted an operation at the area aftera gunfight between two groups of criminals was reported, said OC Mokarram.

Sensing the presence of police the criminals fled through a nearby jute field. Police recovered two bodies with bullet wounds from the scene and sent them to the Jashore General Hospital morgue, he said.

“One of the dead was wearing a lungi while another was wearing a blue vest and pants. They had been shot in the head. Police have yet to identify them because of the damage to their faces,” he added.   

An initial investigation suggests the victims were not local, the OC said.
