The dead were identified as Kamrul Islam, 38, son of late Abdul Malek Vender, and Yasin alias Fakir, 34, son of Wadud Miah.

Kamrul was a resident of Ludia village of Cumilla’s Chauddagram Upazila and Yasin of Netra village of the same Upazila.

The incident took place at Riyadh’s Sulay neighbourhood adjacent to Eastern Ring road late Saturday night, according to other Bangladeshi workers based in Saudi Arabia.

The bodies will be flown to Bangladesh as early as possible, Second Secretary (Press) Fakhrul Islam at the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh told bdnews24.com.

Kamrul and Yasin used to work in a foam factory in Riyadh and stay on the upper floor of the same building, their families said.

The workers were asleep when the fire broke out.

The blaze that originated apparently from an electric malfunction in the factory killed the two Bangladeshi workers on the scene and wounded a Yemeni national, according to Salek Mia, a brother of Kamrul, and Saidul Haque, father-in-law of Yasin.

The firemen later recovered the bodies after the incident and took them to a local hospital morgue.
