One killed after bus hits BNP leader Khandaker Mosharraf’s motorcade in Cumilla

One person has been killed and at least 10 others injured as a bus hit several cars of a motorcade of BNP leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain at Cumilla’s Daudkandi Upazila.

The accident took place on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway near Amirabad on Tuesday afternoon, said Abul Kalam Azad, the OC of Daudkandi Highway Police Station.

All of the victims were the passengers of the motorcade that was heading to a wedding reception, according to the police.

The deceased has been identified as Jewel Pradhan Raihan, 20, an activist of the BNP’s student wing Jatiytabadi Chhatra Dal.

The injured were rushed to Gouripur Health Complex and later some of them were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Alamgir Hossain, a witness to the accident, told bdnews24.com that a Dhaka-bound bus hit three microbuses of the motorcade at a U-turn. The microbuses rammed at least two parked private cars.

Daudkandi Highway Police Station Sub-Inspector Abdun Nur said one of the victims died on the spot.

Khandakar Mosharraf, a former MP from Daudkandi constituency, and the others in the motorcade were heading to Mohammadpur union from Daudkandi to attend a wedding reception of UP Chairman Mujibur Rahman’s son.
