The woman, Roksana Akter, 30, and the newborn have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Kamalapur Railway Police Station OC Yasin Faruq said Roksana and the child were first taken to nearby Mugda Hospital on Monday night after she had given birth.

Roksana’s husband ‘Abdul’, a Bangladeshi citizen, was a furniture trader in India, police said.

They got married after a brief love affair and Roksana became pregnant, OC Yasin said.

Abdul took Roksana to his sister’s home in Narayananj over a month ago, the police officer said.

But Abdul tricked Roksana and fled after stealing her passport some days ago.

Constable Md Fazlu Mia told bdnews24.com Roksana got on a train in Narayanganj and the ticket checker handed her to the police at Kamalapur around 11pm on Monday as she was unable to get off.

OC Yasin said they would try to know where Roksana’s home is in India when she recovers.

The baby was admitted to the intensive care unit for children at the hospital.
