The law enforcers had previously confirmed his death after recovering his body on the Satkhira Highway near the Kuchemora Poultry Farm in Navaran in the early hours of Thursday.

The deceased was later identified as 40-year-old Montaj Ali, a resident of Khedapara village in Jashore’s Monirampur Upazila.

He was accused of involvement with theft, robbery and drug peddling, according to locals.

Montaj’s family claimed he had disappeared after Khedapara camp police detained him from Gangunia’s Amtala area last Tuesday.

The family members later went to identify his body at Jessore General Hospital after receiving an anonymous phone call on Friday afternoon.

Khedapara police camp sub-inspector Ainuddin acknowledged Montaj’s arrest but said he had not been detained from Amtala, but that “he was arrested from Monirampur municipal area while he was consuming alcohol around 8:30pm and was taken to court under the section of 34.”

Ainuddin has yet to confirm the bail decision. The court was also closed due to the Eid holidays.

Three days after the incident Sharsha police chief Moshiur Rahman said law enforcers had also recovered drugs alongside body.

“He was an alleged a robber,” Sub Inspector Ainuddin said. “He used to consume and trade drugs.”

However, he could not confirm whether any case had been filed against the victim.
