Man killed in alleged crossfire with police in Chandpur

Police said a man has been killed while ‘taking preparation for robbery’ in an alleged crossfire at Hajiganj Upazila in Chandpur.

The shootout took place with law enforcers in Syedpur village around 4am on Thursday, said Md Jabedul Islam, chief of Hajiganj Police Station.
 
The man has been identified as 40-year-old Zakir, a resident of Swarna village in the same Upazila.
 

OC Jabedul said a police team conducted an operation in the area based on a tip that a gang of robbers was preparing to commit robbery at a bungalow owned by Junab Ali.
In the meantime, the robbers opened fire on law enforcers prompting them to retaliate.
“Sumon suffered bullet injuries during the gunfight and rushed to Upazila Health Complex at Hajiganj, where doctors declared him dead.”
Sumon was wanted in eight cases for narcotic and robbery, according to the police.
Five police personnel were also injured during the gunfight, the OC said.
Police recovered a shotgun, four bullets, four machetes and some local weapons from the scene.
