DMP Commissioner Md Assaduzzaman Mia says no-one will be let off the hook in the ongoing war on drugs.

“I promise you that drug dealers, irrespective of them being public representative, politician, public servant, industrialist, will be detained and produced in court for trial,” he told a programme on Tuesday.

“Those who finance drug trade, harbour dealers and lobby for them at police stations will also face the music,” he added.

Mia also warned the members of his force against harassment of the innocent during anti-drug operations.

The DMP’s Lalbagh division organised the programme to welcome back with flowers 138 people who have recovered from drug addiction.

Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, who attended the programme as a guest, hailed the initiative.

“I hope this will set an example for the others in the country and such programmes will be organised in other places,” he said.

The law enforcers are facing intense criticism for killing nearly 140 suspects in so-called gun battles during operations after the crackdown on drugs started last month.
