Bayezid Shikder, an inspector of Bangladesh Railway, died around 7pm on Monday while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital.

Bayezid, father of a son, was a resident of Bagerhat.

According to the BR report, Bayezid was on his duty in Benapole commuter train on Khulna-Benapole route on Apr 30. Some unidentified assailants pelted stones on the running train in Daulatpur station area. The train was heading to Khulna from Benapole.

Immediately after the incident, Bayezid was flown to Square Hospital by an air ambulance and later was transferred to the BSMMU.

Bangladesh's Railway Director General Md Amzad Hossain did not accept his death as an accident. “He was killed. An orgranised gang often pelts stones in the area.”

The railway authority already filed a case over the incident.

Meanwhile, Railway Minister Mujibul Haque Mujib gave Tk 100,000 as compensation to Bayezid’s family. The same amount was also given to the family earlier as a financial help.
