The dead have been identified as Sainik Arzan Howladar and Sainik Md Ripon Mia, according to a statement of the Inter Services Public Relations or ISPR.

The accident took place in Yaloke area around 6:45pm local time on Saturday, it said.

“The Bangladeshi peacekeepers were escorting a military and non-military convoy and in the meantime a wood-laden heavy vehicle lost control and caused the accident,” said the statement.

Two other Bangladeshi peacekeepers injured in the crash – Sainik Md Jamal Uddin Mollah and Sainik Md Majahidul Islam – have been taken to the capital Bangui for treatment.

All of the victims were the members of the Bangladesh Battalion-4, which is engaged in UN peacekeeping missions, ISPR said.

The Battalion has been engaged in UN peacekeeping operations since Oct 2014.
