She breathed her last shortly before 7am on Wednesday at her home in Kamarbaisa village in Satkhira.

“Her condition deteriorated for last few days. She started throwing up this morning and wanted to have water. He grandmother went to bring water but she passed away,” said the deceased’s father Ibrahim Hossain.

Muktamoni’s family mourns her death while her mother was found speechless in grief.

Grocer Ibrahim’s daughter Muktamoni was noticed with a tiny red bump on her right arm when she was one and a half years old which eventually grew bigger. For the next four years, the bump grew big hampering her movement.

She was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Jul 11 last year and the doctors diagnosed a tumour in her blood vessels due to a disease called hemangioma that made her arm heavier than the rest of her body, which apparently shrivelled in comparison.

A team of doctors in Dhaka Medical College Hospital operated her hand for six times. She was sent home on Dec 22 last year when her condition got better.

Her condition worsened over the last few days with infection at the wound in hand and also fever.

Doctors asked him to bring his daughter to Dhaka after the Eid, when he contacted Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Ibrahim Hossain. Muktamoni succumbed to her illness before that.
