Senior ASP Mimtanur Rahaman told bdnews24.com a RAB-7 patrol waved a car to stop at a check post in Daudpool area around 11:15pm on Tuesday.

“The RAB personnel retaliated when the people in the car opened fire without responding to the signal. A person’s bullet-hit body was found in the car later,” Mimtanur claimed.

He identified the deceased as Md Faruk, 35, who he said was ‘an infamous drug dealer’.

RAB found a gun, five rounds of bullets and five bullet cases, and 22,000 yaba pills at the scene.

RAB-7 in a text message said Faruk had many cases against him on various charges, including under narcotics control law.

At least 26 people have been killed in anti-drug operations in past four days after Prime minister Sheikh Hasina declared a ‘war on drugs’.
