The decision has already been taken, said Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader at a meeting on traffic congestion on Tuesday.

“It’s our decision. I have already spoken to State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid. He may formally announce the decision,” he said adding that the CNG filling stations will remain open for 24 hours for nine days before and after the Eid.

Usually, gas stations remain closed from 5pm to 9pm every day as part of energy rationing. However, in the month of Ramadan, the authorities extended the shutdown by another two hours for smooth household gas supply.

Four days after the Eid, the filling stations will be instructed to follow the previous timing.

The Eid may be observed on Jun 16, which means the official Eid vacation will continue from Jun 15 to Jun 17. Normally, the roads remain busy before and after Eid holidays.

Speaking at the event, Quader said, “All roadwork will be completed by Jun 8 to ensure smooth homebound journey. Any kind of negligence would not be tolerated.”

Quader urged law-enforcement agencies to make their best efforts in keeping the roads free from traffic jam during the Eid.
