Three die as bus rams autorickshaw in Brahmanbaria

Three young men have been killed after a bus rammed into an autorickshaw on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Brahmanbaria’s Sarail Upazila.

The accident occurred at the upazila’s Malihata Bazar area around 6am on Saturday, said Md Hossain Sarker, officer-in-charge of Khatihata Highway Police Station.

The dead have been identified as Nasar Mian, 17, Arman, 17 and autorickshaw driver Saidul, 18. They all hailed from the Chor Chartala area in Ashuganj Upazila.

A Dhaka-bound bus from Sylhet rammed the autoricksahw while it was crossing the road, said OC Hossain, quoting witnesses.

“Nasar Mia died instantly. Arman died at Bhairab Medical Centre at Kishoreganj and driver Saidul died while undergoing treatment at Jahurul Islam Medical College Hospital in Bajitpur.”   

Swapnahar Begum, mother of driver Saidul, said he was on his way to Bishwa Road to refuel the vehicle after sehri time. His friends Nasar and Arman had gone along with him. 

The bus drove off before it could be stopped, OC Hossain said. No case has yet to file over the incident.
