The accident happened around 12:45pm in Kuril Biswa Road area on Wednesday.

The dead has been identified as Firoza Begum, mother of 35-year-old Nazma Begum, hailing from Gutiab village in Narayanganj’s Rupganj Upazila.

Nazma, who narrowly escaped the accident, told bdnews24.com she with her sick mother came to Dhaka early on Wednesday to see a doctor at the BIRDEM Hospital.

After the visit they met the accident while they were crossing the railway to catch the Rupganj-bound bus home.

Nazma was speaking on her mobile phone while walking on the tracks and her mother was following her, according to an eyewitness.

The train from Kamalapur Railway Station hit Firoza from behind and killed her at the scene. Nazma jumped aside but suffered minor injuries on her knees.

A local tea shop owner told bdnews24.com when the train was approaching, some people had shouted warnings to the duo but there was little time for them to get to safety.

With the help of the locals, Nazma recovered the body and took it to the village by an autorickshaw.

Yasin Faruk, chief of Dhaka railway police, said, “I am not aware of the accident, but we will start a case.”
