Bangladesh embassy in Denmark showcases Bangalee culture through Bangla New Year celebration

The Bangladesh embassy in Copenhagen has celebrated Bangla New Year 1425 at the chancery, presenting the rich culture of Bengalee heritage to the people of Denmark.

The embassy said a cross-section of the Danish society, foreign friends from other EU nations and a good number of ambassadors and diplomats joined the event along with a big crowd from the local Bangladeshi community on Saturday evening.

They enjoyed the music and dance performances at the event and relished a wide variety of authentic Bangladeshi cuisine.

This celebration is part of the cultural and culinary diplomacy efforts of the embassy.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Denmark Muhammad A Muhith and his spouse Ruby Parveen greeted the guests and wished them a happy Bangalee New Year and thanked the participants and contributors to make such a big arrangement a reality.

While delivering the inauguration speech, Parveen said that a gala celebration like this, with the participation of foreigners and the Bangladeshi diaspora, will not only promote the positive image of Bangladesh abroad, but also help embed the richness of Bengali culture among the new generations.

Ambassador Muhith highlighted the special significance of this year’s celebration which was coincided with the achievement of the government led by Prime Minister Sheika Hasina with the launching of first Bangladeshi satellite Bangbandhu - 1 on the previous night.

The whole chancery was decorated with colourful art works depicting Bengali culture and heritage, which generated great interest among the foreign guests.

Traditional Bangladeshi cuisine was served at the event - which included biryani, bhat-bhorta, halim, fuchka, chatpati and numerous types of pitha-puli, payesh, sondesh, doi-mishti and other snack items prepared by the embassy and the families of the Bangladesh diaspora.

Head of Chancery Shakil Sahrior rounded off the celebration thanking all whose participation and contribution made the event a huge success.
