Hamid is the 17th individual to hold the presidential office and 16 predecessors served 19 terms as presidents since the independence of Bangladesh.

However, President Hamid is creating a history by taking presidential responsibility for a second consecutive term.

Also, it will be his last term as a president as the constitution allows a maximum of two terms of presidency.

He will be sworn in as the head of the state by Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at Bangabhaban on Tuesday evening.

Hamid was sworn in as the 20th president of the country on Apr 24, 2013. He is taking the oath on the same date this year as the 21st president.

Officials of Bangabhaban said preparation of the oath-taking ceremony has already been done. Bangabhaban was illuminated with red and green lights and decorated with flowers.

Arrangement has been made for entertainment of the guests at the balcony adjacent to Darbar Hall.

Officials of the President’s Office and the Cabinet Division rehearsed the entire programme on Monday.

Hamid who has been involved in politics since his student-life made different comments on the ‘controlled life’ of Bangabhaban after he was elected as president for the first term.

In his words, those who belong to ‘grassroots politics’ sometimes do not find the controlled life in Bangabhaban ‘very comfortable’.

“No matter what facilities are there, a caged bird is never free like the one in forest,” Hamid said.
