Pirojpur Additional District and Sessions Judge SM Zillur Rahman announced the verdict on Monday.

The convicts are 28-year-old Alamin Amin Sarder alias Akas and 27-year-old Mukul Akhter. Both are from the district’s Mathbaria Upazila.

They are both absconding.

The convicts have also been fined TK 20,000 each and will have to spend an additional six months behind bars if they fail to pay.

According to the case dossier, Mamtaj Begum, the wife of Faruk Farazi from Chitra village in Mathbaria Upazila, was called in for ‘emergency work’ as part of a plan by Alamin and Mukul.

They brought her to a paddy field and strangled her to death.

Police arrested the convicts after her husband Faruk filed a murder case in 2009 but they were later released on bail and fled.

The court indicted the two in 2010 after police filed a charge sheet.
