Gazipur court sentences 13 to death for 1995 murder
A Gazipur court has sentenced 13 people to death for a murder in 1995.

Gazipur Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Fazle Elahi Bhuiyan announced the verdict on Monday.
The convicts are: Falan, Kadir, Chadir Ali, Kalam, Alam, Humayun-1, Manik, Bajit, Ajij, Osman, Md Chamad, Humayun-2 and Faruk. They all are from Bahadur Saadi village in Gazipur.
Seven of the convicts were present in court to hear the verdict while Falan, Ajij, Chamad, Faruk and Alam were tried as fugitives, said Maqbool Hossain Kazal, additional public prosecutor.
Each of the convicts has also been fined Tk 10,000.
Billal Hossain Bilu was hacked to death in Kaliganj’s Ishwarpur village in 1995 in a fight over the stealing of a gourd. Bilu was 45 years old at the time, said Court Inspector Md Rabiul Islam.
His brother Jalal Uddin filed a case on that day with Kaliganj Police Station, according to the case dossier. The officials conducted an operation and arrested Chadir. Six others were arrested on the basis of Chadir’s confession.
The court indicted 13 suspects based on a police investigation in 1997.
