The two leaders discussed different issues, including bilateral ones, at the Lancaster House on Thursday, Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque told the media.

The secretary would not say clearly whether the prime ministers discussed the Rohingya refugee issue.

“India has changed its stance much on the Rohingya issue. They are very much close to us. They are helping with the repatriation (of the Rohingyas to Myanmar),” Shahidul said.

Modi is set to join convocation of Visva-Bharati in West Bengal by the end of next month when a building styled ‘Bangladesh Bhavan’ will be opened at the famous university.

Hasina is also invited to the event. The two leaders hoped they would meet again there if Hasina goes to the university, a person who was present in the London meeting told bdnews24.com.

Modi is the first Indian government head to join a CHOGM after 2009.

Rohingya issue in C’wealth meet

Shahidul said the prime minister attended different sessions after the Commonwealth meeting started.

She spoke about the Rohingya issue for a long time in the meeting.

The prime minister referred to the five-point proposal she had presented in last year’s UN General Assembly.

She also called for support of the Commonwealth leaders to mount international pressure on Myanmar to take back the Rohingyas.

Many leaders, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, also spoke on the issue, Shahidul said.
