The man has been identified as 50-year-old Ansar Rahman Mridha, a resident of Kastodanga village, said Inspector Nasim Ahmed, chief of Bagmara Police Station.

The killing has been reported from Majhnagar Bazar in Upazila’s Nordas Union around 9:15am on Wednesday.

A group of people indiscriminately hacked Mridha with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. Later, he was rushed to Bagmara Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, said police.

Over the last few days, the dispute has continued between the two groups in the neighbourhood over fishing in the Joka marshland, leading to the killing of Mridha, according to police.
