The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Hridoy Minar, who works as a bus helper at the same company. But he was travelling as a passenger when the disaster struck on Dhaka-Khulna Highway near Bedgram at Sadar Upazila around 10:30am on Tuesday.

Md Monirul Islam, the Gopalganj Sadar Police Station OC, said the Tungiparha Express was going to Dhaka from Gopalganj.

“His right arm got severed from the shoulder on the spot. He was taken to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital and immediately shifted to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated,” said Rahima Rani, an Eden College student who was also travelling on the same bus.

She said the oncoming truck sped past the bus hitting its rear end where Minar was seated.

“It was entirely the truck driver’s fault that he lost his arm,” Rahima said.

OC Monirul said they have not been able to detain the truck driver.

On Apr 3, Rajib Hossain, a third-year student of Government Titumir College, lost his right arm in a race of two buses in the capital Dhaka.

Rajib succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Tuesday.
