The victim was identified as 22-year-old Shima Khatun, wife of Abdur Razzak in Raiganj Upazila’s Bhuiyangati village.

After being informed by villagers, police recovered the body around 10:30am on Monday, said Inspector Nurul Islam, chief of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station.

Shima and her two sisters along with their husbands came to their father’s home to celebrate the Bengali New Year.

On Sunday, everybody left home but Shima and her husband stayed back.

The next day, Shima’s father Khabir Uddin went out to visit a doctor leaving them at home. Razzak then attacked and strangled his wife, according to Khabir.

He said Shima married Razzak about eight years ago, but their relationship soured soon after.

Khabir linked the death of his daughter to the feud.

Police said the injury marks have been found around the victim’s neck. They are hunting for Razzak who fled immediately after the killing.

A police case was underway.
