Rajib accident: Bail of BRTC and Swajan bus drivers rejected

A court has dismissed the bail petitions filed by the BRTC and Swajan Paribahan bus drivers involved in the accident that resulted in Titumir College student Rajib Hossain losing an arm in Dhaka.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Noor Nahar Yasmeen rejected their bail petition on Monday, filed by the lawyers of the two drivers.

Swajan Paribahan Driver Md Khorshed was represented by Helal Uddin Patwari, while BRTC driver Md Wahed Ali was represented by Mohammad Yunus.

The state was represented by General Registration Officer SI Muqbulur Rahman, who opposed the motion for the bail.

On Apr 3, Rajib Hossain’s arm was crushed between two buses due to reckless driving in the Kawran Bazar area. His right arm was severed above the elbow.

Rajib also sustained injuries to the front and back of the head. He is currently on life support at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The two bus drivers were arrested for reckless driving and causing critical injury.

Police received a two-day remand to question Khurshid and Wahed.

The two suspects were brought to court following their remand on Apr 8.

If found guilty under one charge, the two drivers could face up to three years in prison or a Tk 5,000 fine, or both. The second charge also carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison or a fine, or both.
