Abid Ahmed Liton has been transferred to Narayanganj Jail after the prison authorities noticed the uproar on the social media over his Facebook post that "Bangla New Year festivity is tainted with Hindu culture and it is un-Islamic too."

After the barrage of protest on Apr 13, Abid deleted the post, but the prison authorities took the matter seriously and ordered departmental action against him.

"He has been transferred to Narayanganj as deputy jailer after the matter came to our notice. A departmental proceeding has also been initiated," Assistant Director General of Prison (Admin) Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mamun told bdnews24.com.

He said his directorate issued a notice on Feb 5 asking all officials to follow the government guidelines on the use of social media. The Cabinet Division issued the guidelines in 2016 on posting Facebook status and uploading photos on the social media.

Abid had been working in the prison directorate for the last three years.
