Atiqul Islam, Justice of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Dhaka, granted the remand in response to an appeal from Inspector Md Jakaria, officer-in-charge at Dhamrai Police Station, seeking a seven-day remand for questioning.

The suspects are Babu Mollick, a driver from Jatri Seba transport service, and his accomplices Balram Das, Abdul Aziz, Sohel and Mokbul Hossain.

Earlier on Monday, the garment workers gave a confessional statement to Chief Judicial Magistrate Monika Khan under section 22 regarding the rape incident.

Police arrested the five suspects and recovered the rape victim at the Kachmach neighbourhood in Dhamrai Upazila on Dhaka-Aricha Highway around midnight on Sunday.

Dhamrai Police Station Sub-Inspector Moloy Saha told bdnews24.com that the woman got on the local bus named Jatri Seba from Islampur bus-stand at night. All of the passengers, aside from the five suspects, disembarked at the Kalampur bus stand. The helper closed the door and the driver began driving aimlessly.

“Five of the bus staff raped the girl one after another. On hearing the victim scream, nearby petrol pump workers informed the police. Later, four units of police chased the bus and rescued her from the Kochmoch area,” he said.
