Ruhi was among the five people admitted with critical injuries to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. They were burned in a fire that broke out following a blast inside a septic tank in the Pallabi neighbourhood in Dhaka’s Mirpur early Tuesday.

Ruhi who was under treatment in the burn unit died at 1am, said Sub-Inspector Md Bachhu Mian of DMCH Police Outpost.

Dr Samanta Lal Sen, coordinator of burn unit who treated the kid, said 90 percent of Ruhi’s body was burned in the fire. “It was impossible to keep her alive. We have tried our best, but failed.”

Ruhi was the daughter of Yasmin Akter, 35, who also suffered burn injuries in the same incident.

Others who were injured in the fire were landowner Yakub Ali, 70, his wife Hasin Ara Khanam, 60, and caretaker Mohammad Hasan, 32.

On Tuesday morning, caretaker Hasan opened the cover of the septic tank for clearing it.

Later, he dropped a flaming paper into the septic tank to check the presence of toxic gas. That has triggered the blast, according to the Mirpur Fire Service.
