The crash took place around 4am on Wednesday at the district’s Barahipur rail crossing, said Sub-Inspector Abdul Alim of Feni Railway Police Station.

Police suspected that the gateman was sleeping during the accident. He went into hiding after the incident.

A covered van tried to cross the open railroad while the Chittagong-bound Turna Nishith Express arrived in Barahipur from Dhaka, said SI Alim.

The covered van skidded off the line as the inter-city train crashed into it. Four people, including the van driver, have died on the soot, according to police.

Police rushed the injured people to the Feni Sadar Hospital.

The bodies have been sent to the hospital morgue. They could not be identified yet.

The accident disrupted the railway communication.
