The Power Development Board or PDB said Bangladesh generated 10,084MW of electricity around 7pm on Monday.

“Power generation has been increasing for the last few days,” said PDB spokesman Md Saiful Islam.

The demand for power generation was also 10,000 MW at that point in time.

Although electricity generation reached its peak, parts of in the capital experienced load shedding in the afternoon as demand surged.

“This could be load shedding, or technical glitch that caused power failure during that time,” said Islam.

However, a report by the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh said there has been no load shedding at 2pm on Monday when electricity generation was 9,938MW.

Electricity generation reached 9,715MW on March 15, and gradually increased to 10,000 MW.

The previous highest production of power was 9,471MW generated at 10pm on May 28, 2017.

The number of power plants increased to 108 from 27 when the ruling Awami League government came into power in 2009.

More power plants hiked the power generation capacity to 15,351MW from 4,942MW.

At least 80 percent of the population is now under electricity coverage, rising from 47 percent in 2009.
