Hasina greets Putin on his re-election, invites him to visit Bangladesh

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin on his re-election and invited him to visit Bangladesh.

In a message, she said under “your dynamic leadership, the Russian Federation has been enjoying continued stability, peace, progress and prosperity”.

“I am confident that your political wisdom and your acumen will lead you to further success for the Russian Federation and its people,” she said, according to the message sent by the foreign ministry on Monday.

The prime minister termed Russia a “trusted historic friend” of Bangladesh and said this friendship has further strengthened over the years.

“I am pleased to note that our time-tested bilateral relations reached a new height through interactions at the highest political level, beginning with the historic visit of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to the USSR in April 1972 and my subsequent visits to your great country in 2010 and 2013.

“I am confident that under your leadership the bilateral relations between our two countries will flourish even further,” read the letter.

She invited him to visit Bangladesh at his “earliest convenience” and said: “People of Bangladesh always consider you as a trusted friend of Bangladesh and thank you for your personal engagement to participate and assist in the development efforts of Bangladesh.”

“We await your arrival in Bangladesh,” she said, wishing Putin’s “personal good health, happiness and long life, and for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the friendly people of the Russian Federation.”
