The bodies of 23 identified Bangladeshi victims were flown back home on Monday and taken to the army stadium for a funeral service, before their handover to family members.

The air force transport plane, carrying the coffins, landed in Dhaka just after 4pm, when Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader and Civil Aviation Minister Shahjahan Kamal officially received the bodies.,

The coffins were then taken to the army stadium, where a funeral prayer was held for the victims of Bangladesh’s worst aviation disaster.

President Md Abdul Hamid’s military secretary paid the last respects on behalf of him, while Minister Quader on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, followed by Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.

A BNP delegation, led by senior leaders Hafizuddin Ahmed and Altaf Hossain Chowdhury paid respects on behalf of the party.

The bodies were then handed over to the family members.

On Mar 12, a US-Bangla plane crashed as it tried to land at the Tribhuvan International Airport in the Nepali capital, killing 49 people.

The Bombardier Dash 8-Q400 aircraft was carrying 71 people.

The 23 bodies include those of pilot Abid Sultan, co-pilot Prithula Rashid and crew members Khwaja Hossain Mohammad Shafey and Sharmeen Akter Nabila.

The others are Foysal Ahmed, Bilkis Ara, Begum Hurun Nahar Bilquis Banu, Akhtara Begum, Nazia Afrin Chowdhury, Rokibul Hasan, Hasan Imam, Akhi Moni, Meenhaz Bin Nasir, Faruk Hossain Priok, his two-year-old daughter Tamarra Prionmoyee, Motiur Rahman, SM Mahmudur Rahman, Tahira Tanvin Shashi Reza, Begum Umme Salma, Nuruz Zaman, Rafiq Zaman, his wife Sanzida Huque and their six-year-old son Aniruddha Zaman.

Nepali authorities are yet to identify the bodies of three other Bangladeshis: Alifuzzaman, Pias Roy and Mohammad Nazrul Islam.
