Suspected pirate dies in shootout with RAB in Noakhali

A shootout between suspected pirates and Rapid Action Battalion or RAB has left one robber dead in Noakhali, police said.

The incident took place at Char Amzad along the border of Sandwip island early on Friday, said Noakhali Additional Superintendent of Police AKM Jahirul Islam.

He identified the dead as Ibrahim Majhi.

“A RAB team raided the Char Elahi Union around 2:30am. At one point, they exchanged fire with Ibrahim and his accomplices,” Jahirul said.

“Ibrahim died on the spot. His body was taken to Companiganj Police Station,” said the additional SP.

Ibrahim led a local gang of pirates. He was facing police cases, according to RAB.

Weapons were recovered from the scene.
