The raids were conducted at Damdamia and Jhinukhal along the Naf River early on Friday, said Teknaf-based BGB Battalion Commander Lt Col Asaduzzaman Chowdhury.

The market value of the seized items is Tk 546 million, according to BGB.

On a tip-off that a huge consignment of the contraband drug was on way from Myanmar, a BGB team took position at Damdamia, said Lt Col Chowdhury.

“Some two or three people arrived on the shore by boat. As soon as the BGB personnel signalled them to stop, they fled the scene leaving behind three sacks. A total of 1.2 million pieces of yaba were found inside the sacks,” he told bdnews24.com.

Another BGB team took position in Jhinukhal on a similar tip-off, he said.

“About four people were heading towards the shore on an engine-run boat. The smugglers fled the scene seeing BGB,” the commander said.

BGB personnel later found over 600,000 pieces of the methamphetamine-based tablet inside the sacks on the boat, he added.

The seized items were kept at the BGB headquarters in Teknaf.
