The incident was reported from the district’s Chatkhil Upazila. The victim’s family said police did not pay any attention to arrest the criminals.

Noakhali General Hospital verified the rape and submitted a test report to the court on Feb 18, said Residential Medical Officer Anwarul Azim. He could not confirm whether the case proceeded.

According to the girl’s mother, she had been visiting her uncle’s home on Feb 7. Six men, including Jubo League President Mojibur Rahman Sharif, took the girl while posing as policemen. They raped her and then left her near the home.

She claimed that they had tried to file a case at the Chatkhil Police Station, but police had initially refused to take the case. Then, on Feb 10, they recorded the case once Sharif’s name was dropped.

The girl’s mother said the perpetrators had come to the house on Tuesday after the case was filed, detonated small explosives and threatened to kill them.

The girl’s testimony was recorded at the court of Noakhali Senior Judicial Magistrate AKM Raushan Jahan under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on Feb 11, said Chatkhil Police Station Inspector Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury.

“After that, Noakhali Union Jubo League President Mojibur Rahman Sharif and two others were added to the case as suspects.”

“The names of the other suspects are being kept secret as part of the investigation. Police are monitoring all three. Legal action will be taken against them in due time.”

Chatkhil Police OC Zahirul Anwar denied that Sharif’s name had been dropped from the case.

The plaintiffs had not accused him so it could not be dropped, he said. The victim’s mother had filed a case against two named persons and four other unnamed individuals, he said.

Asked about the confrontation at home, he said police had found no sign of explosives and were investigating the threat.

Local Jubo League Convener and Chatkhil Municipal Mayor Mohammad Ullah Patwari claimed the allegation had been made to sully the name of the organisation.

“But if the allegations are found to be true, we will take action.”
