The incident was reported on Wednesday from the southeastern district’s island Upazila of Moheshkhali, said police.

“Seven people suffered injuries when the cylinder exploded. Two of them were declared dead after being rushed to the local hospital,” said local police OC Pradip Kumar Das.

He said the blast took place during the carnival near the Adinath Temple in Thakurtola area.

Police are yet to identify the deceased—a man and a woman, both of them estimated to be in their 40s.

The carnival known as the ‘Adinath Fair’ is arranged by Hindus, which attracts a huge crowd every year.
