The law enforcers said they first arrested two, including an SSC candidate, in Dhaka after the exam on Saturday, and made the other arrests in and outside the capital following information provided by the duo.

New Market Police Station OC Atiqur Rahman told bdnews24.com that the police arrested one ‘Fahim’, a brother of an SSC candidate, from in front of the Government Laboratory School centre just before the start of the math exam at 10am.

Another SSC candidate, who is a friend of Fahim’s brother, was also spotted with a mobile phone at the time and arrested after the exam.

Atiqur said Fahim and his brother’s friend were found doing something suspicious together on their mobile phones, but the candidate was allowed to sit for the exam.

The leaked question paper was found on their mobile phones, he said and added it matched exactly with the original one used in the test.

Fahim is a student of Dhaka University’s physics department, the police officer said.

Later, the two were handed over to the Detective Branch of police.

The detectives arrested 12 others pursuing the information given by the two, a DB official told bdnews24.com on condition of anonymity. He also declined to comment on from whom they got the leaked question paper ahead of the exam.

DB would organise a press conference on Sunday about the breakthrough in the investigation, he added.
