5 children burned in Old Dhaka transformer blast

At least five children have been burned and another injured after a transformer exploision in Old Dhaka’s Bangshal.

The blast occurred around 9:30am on Saturday near Alu Bazar, police said. 
 
Abdul Walid, a local Awami League leader, made a call to police and informed them about the casualties, Bangshal Police Station Operator Md Shahed told bdnews24.com.
 
“Law enforcers rushed to the scene and found that one of the three transformers near the local mosque had exploded,” said Bangshal Police OC Shahedur Rahman.
 
The children panicked after a spark from the explosion fell on the canvas over the under-construction mosque. 
 
Eight-year olds Mustakin, Abdur Rahman and Ashiq, seven-year old Zabed and Salman are undergoing treatment at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, said SI Bacchu Mia of the DMCH police outpost.
 
Sazzad, a five-year old boy, was injured on the scene.
