Schoolgirl found dead in Narayanganj home, police suspect rape-and-murder

Police have recovered the body of a schoolgirl, suspected to be murdered after the rape, in Narayanganj’s Fatullah.

The 12-year-old girl, ‘Monalisa’, was at home in Kashimpur Ambagan area with her 9-year-old brother ‘Shahed’ on Friday evening when the neighbours found her body hanging from the ceiling fan, police said quoting witnesses.  

Narayanganj Additional Superintended of Police Md Sharfuddin told bdnews24.com on Saturday that the body of the sixth grader was kept at Narayanganj General Hospital mortuary for the post-mortem.

Her father Shaheen Bapari, a businessman, said he and his wife Moriam Begum went to visit Moriom’s parents in Narsinghdi on Friday morning leaving their two children at home.

He said one of their neighbours called them in the evening over mobile phone to inform them that Monalisa’s body was found hanging.

The neighbour said they rushed to their home after hearing Shahed screaming, Shaheen said.

He also said quoting the neighbour that a young man entered their home and left after a short period in the evening on Friday.

Shahed said ‘Sayeed’, a young man living in the neighbourhood, came to their home for water to drink and let Shahed go outside to play.

The boy said he screamed after seeing his sister hanging from the fan when he returned home.

ASP Sharfuddin said they identified a suspect and were trying to catch him.
