The accident occurred at the Shaheed M Mansur Ali Railway Station at the Sadar Upazila’s Kodda on Monday, said Railway Police SI Zakir Hossain.

The victim has been identified as Shafiqul Islam Shanto, 22, a student of Dhaka University’s Department of Mathematics. He has been transferred to Dhaka for treatment.

Shanto came to the station to catch a train from his home in Sirajganj, Hossain said. He slipped while trying to board the moving Sirajganj express train.

Locals rushed him to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital, from where doctors transferred him to Dhaka’s National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation.

“His legs were crushed but have not been severed from the body,” Shamimul Islam, a doctor at Sirajganj Sadar Hospital, told bdnews24.com. “He has suffered massive blood loss. We administered first aid and sent him to Dhaka.”
