Tapan Kumar Sarkar, controller of examinations at Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka, told bdnews24.com about their change of plan after the court ordered the stay on Wednesday.

“The SSC exams will not be deferred if the city corporation polls are not held during the tests. The exams will be held as per schedule,” he said.

It means the geography and environment test will be held on Feb 24 and the practical test of music on Feb 25.

The SCC theoretical tests will be held from Feb 1 to 24 and the practical tests from Feb 25 to Mar 4.

The Election Commission held a meeting with the education ministry and board officials on Dec 26 on the schedule of the mayoral by-polls to Dhaka North City Corporation and elections to 36 new wards of the two Dhaka city corporations.

The education officials agreed to defer the SCC tests scheduled for Feb 24-25 due to the polls.

The EC later announced the polls schedule, with Feb 26 as the voting day, but the High Court stayed the elections for three months following two writ petitions as the electoral roll in the new wards was not published before the Jan 18 deadline for filing nominations.
