The protests entered their second day on Monday as students began a march from the Aparajeyo Bangla statue on the campus.

After making a round of the campus, the students took up positions outside the offices of the vice-chancellor.

Some of the protesters told bdnews24.com that officials from the office padlocked the gate to the registrar’s building as the march neared so that the students could not enter. The protesters then took up positions outside the building.

Mashiur Rahman, a student of Dhaka University Institute of Information Technology, is a convener of the protest.

“We are demanding the administration severs its affiliation with the seven colleges,” he told bdnews24.com. “We will remain here until it is done.”

The protesters blocked the TSC intersection on Sunday, causing traffic congestion in nearby areas.

On Feb 23 of last year the seven colleges were made affiliates of Dhaka University under the orders of the prime minister and the Ministry of Education.

Admission tests, textbooks and examinations for Dhaka College, Eden Women’s College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul College, Begum Badrunnessa Government Women’s College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College have been organised by Dhaka University.

Students of the seven colleges protested the affiliations last year, where one of the protesters was blinded by a police tear gas canister.

Dhaka University students say the affiliations have also caused them various problems.
