Two workers die, three fall sick after drinking toxic liquor in Sirajganj

Two day workers have died and three others have fallen sick after drinking toxic liquor in Sirajganj.

The group fell sick after drinking the liquor on Thursday night. The victims were taken to hospital, where one died on Friday and another died on Saturday.

The dead have been identified as Alam Sheikh, 32, and Ramzan Ali, 45.

The other victims were identified as Badsha, 35, Alam Sheikh, 25, and Siraj Mollah, 35. The first two are still in the care of Sirajganj Sadar Hospital while the third has returned home after receiving treatment.

The five loaded and unloaded trucks on the west side of the Bangabandhu Bridge, said Sayedabad Union Ward-9 Member Abdul Aziz Mandul.

“They were taken to the Sadar Hospital after drinking poisonous liquor on Thursday night. Ramzan Ali died around 11am on Friday night while undergoing treatment. Alam Sheikh passed away around 12:30pm on Saturday.”

Doctors said all five were poisoned by toxic liquor, said Sadar Police Station OC Helal Uddin. Police are preparing a case over the incident.
