The black market value of the stash is nearly Tk 210 million, the Coast Guard said in a statement.

A Coast Guard team led by Station Commander Jafar Imam Shojib took up positions on the north end of St Martin’s Island on Friday night based on a tip-off, according to the statement.

The team noticed a passing trawler and commanded it to stop.

The smugglers then abandoned their boat and fled.

The stash was found wrapped in polythene during a search of the trawler.
