The International Crimes Tribunal or ICT led by Justice Shahinur Islam fixed the date.

On Nov 20 last year, the tribunal concluded the trial following the closing arguments and kept the verdict pending.

Four other war crimes suspects are Md Nesar Ali, Yunus Ahmed, Ojayer Ahmed Chowdhury and Mobarok Miya.

Ojayer, 60, and Yunus, 70, are in jail while the rest were tried as fugitives.

“The matter was on the day’s agenda for the tribunal, when it fixed Wednesday to deliver the verdict,” Prosecutor Sultan Mahmud Seemon told bdnews24.com on Tuesday.

It will be the 30th verdict by the ICT since it was formed in 2010.

The investigation in the case began in October 2014. The ICT’s investigation wing submitted its report in January 2016.

The court indicted the five on Dec 8, 2016 and began hearings in the trial on Jan 15 last year.

According to the charges, Shamsul was the local Al-Badr commander while Nesar was a local Razakar commander in 1971.

All of them have been charged of murders, mass killings, abduction and torture during the 1971 Liberation War.

Ojayer and Yunus were arrested in Moulvibazar on Oct 13, 2015 after the tribunal issued arrest warrants against them.
