Fog delays Dhaka flights for third day

Heavy fog has caused significant delays on flights landing and taking off from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for the third straight day.

Flight operations were suspended from 2am to 9:30am on Thursday due to the fog, said Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh spokesman AKM Rezaul Karim.

An Etihad cargo flight could not land in Dhaka due to the fog. An international US-Bangla flight was diverted to Chittagong.

“Heavy fog has caused delays on many flights,” said Biman Bangladesh Public Relations GM Shakil Meraz.

Flights from Dhaka to Singapore, Jeddah, Cox’s Bazar and Syedpur on Thursday morning were delayed due to the fog.

“Operators and passengers are having difficulties because of the fog,” said US Banlga Airlines Public Relations GM Quamrul Islam. “As most of the domestic flights are scheduled in the morning, they face the most difficulties.

Flight operations had also been suspended on Wednesday morning from 12:40am to 10am due to the fog.

At least 20 international flights were scheduled to land at that time. At least six were diverted to other airports.

Flights from Biman Bangladesh, China Southern, Emirates, Malindo Air, Kuwait Air and Air Asia were also delayed.

At least 20 flights to Dhaka were also delayed due to the fog on Tuesday morning.
