Fisheries minister Sayedul Hoque buried at family graveyard in Nasirnagar

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sayedul Hoque has been laid to rest at his family graveyard at Nasirnagar in Brahmanbaria.

He was drenched with love, respect and affections by the people of his constituency who attended the funeral prayers at local Ashutosh Pilot High School ground and later, thronged the graveyard at Kollarparha at the time of his burial in the afternoon on Sunday.  

His coffin was flown to Nasirnagar by a Navy helicopter around 1pm after a Namaz-e-Janaza at the South Plaza of the Parliament Building in Dhaka. Being a freedom fighter, he was given the state honour.

Law Minister Anisul Huq, MPs from Brahmanbaria, and local political leaders and district administration officials took part in the prayers along with thousands of the local people.

Hoque's son Raihanul spoke briefly to funeral attendees and sought blessings and forgiveness for his father.

The local chapter of Awami League announced a three-day mourning at Nasirnagar.

Sayedul Hoque was elected member of parliament from Nasirnagar for five consecutive terms and was given the Cabinet berth after the Awami League formed the government in 2014.

He was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital and on life support from Dec 13. He breathed his last on Saturday morning at the age of 75.
