The BNP took out the procession at 3pm on the occasion of the country’s 47th Victory Day.

The leaders and activists, however, started marching from different wards and gathered in front of the BNP headquarters in Paltan around 1:30pm.

As a result, traffic movement on the Malibagh-Kakrail-Naya Paltan route became sluggish around that time.

Commuters remained stuck in traffic at Paltan, Kakrail, Shantinagar and Malibagh.

“The rally is due to start at 3pm but no vehicle is heading towards Gulistan,” said a commuter, ‘Sharif’, while caught up in traffic at Kakrail around 1:30pm.

While the parade marched down the streets of Kakrail, Shantinagar, and Malibagh, a tailback developed on the Malibagh flyover.

The Nightingale intersection, Rajmoni intersection, Shantinagar intersection and Malibagh intersection saw heavy traffic congestions, according to the Traffic Control Room.

The BNP stuck to the schedule and finished the programme by 4pm, DMP (Motijheel Division) Deputy Commissioner Md Anwar Hossain told bdnews24.com.

Vehicular movement became normal around 4:30pm, he said.
